Ilkay Gundogan has officially confirmed his decision to retire from the German national football team after taking some time to reflect.

‘After two or three weeks of deliberation. I have come to the conclusion that it is time to end my international career.’ Gundogan posted.
‘I look back with great pride on the 82 international caps I have played for my homeland. A number I could not have imagined when I made my senior international debut in 2011.’
Gundogan made his Germany debut in October 2011 under Joachim Löw. Who brought him on for Philipp Lahm for the final six minutes of a 3-1 win over Belgium in a Euro 2012 qualifier in Düsseldorf.
Gundogan announced his retirement on Monday amid speculation about his club future. The Barcelona player, linked with a return to Manchester City, confirmed this decision via a statement on X. “After a few weeks of reflection. I have come to the conclusion that it is time to end my national team career.” he wrote.
